The Nagaland SDG Action Awards, organized by the SDG Coordination Centre, Planning & Transformation Department, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, recognize impactful grassroots initiatives advancing social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
The Mobius Young Climate Leaders for Himalayan Development, YouthNet, received the award in the Environmental Sustainability category for its work on waste management, ecosystem conservation, biodiversity protection, and natural resource management, contributing to SDGs 6, 7, 12, 13, and 15.
A central initiative under the project is Mobius Green Friday, a school-based program that promotes environmental responsibility through practical waste management activities. Students bring dry waste from their homes and schools each Friday and segregate it into categories such as paper and plastic. The collected waste is stored on campus and later transported to a recycling unit.
Alongside waste segregation, the program includes awareness sessions, Eco Clubs, and incentive schemes for schools, while also partnering with Village Councils and the Office of the Deputy Commissioner to strengthen community-level waste management. The initiative aims to develop a scalable model that builds long-term environmental responsibility among students and communities.
The awards were handed over by Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Friday, which was held at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.
