Mobius Young Climate Leaders for Himalayan Development Project
The Mobius Young Climate Leaders for Himalayan Development Project led by the Climate Studies and Knowledge Solutions Centre, Government of Nagaland with support from the Department of Environment Forest and Climate Change and Nagaland Board of Secondary Education (NBSE) and the Hearth Advisors. The project being implemented by YouthNet is being generously supported by the Mobius Foundation through visionary leadership of Shri Pradip Burman, the Honourable Chairman of the Foundation. MOBIUS YOUNG PROFESSIONALS PROGRAM under the project was launched where 14 Forestry and Environment graduates have been selected and trained to undertake the three key components of the project.
FIRST COMPONENT: Implementation the pani-pahar curriculum developed by the Hearth Advisors - University of Cambridge, UK
The curriculum is being implemented across the 15 participating schools which have been well received where their learning is being translated into practical climate action through programs such as the Mobius Green Friday which aims at reuse and recycling at the household level with support from the Village Councils. Every week on Fridays students deposit their segregated household waste (only paper and plastic) in their respective schools, which is aggregated and collected at the end every month from all 15 schools. The outcome of the volume of waste collected has met with overwhelming success and the further course of action is being discussed to either establish a recycling enterprise or deposit it to the Government Municipal. An increasing curiosity and awareness of various issues on Environment and climate of the school children is being observed and recorded in the reports of the Mobius Young Professionals.

SECOND COMPONENT: Capacity building of forestry graduates on Forest Project Management
As a strong supporting partner of the project the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Nagaland (Dimapur District), the Mobius Young Professional (MYP) are undertaking intensive sessions on project management and field visits on various aspects of forest project Management under the ongoing JICA-Nagaland Forestry Management (funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency) which aims to rehabilitate shifting cultivation with Agroforestry intervention. Since beekeeping is an important component of Agroforestry, the project is undertaking a collaborative study with the Government’s Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) and the Forest department to jointly to develop and publish “A road map to accelerate the honey sector in Nagaland” and submit it to the Government. It is envisaged that beekeeping as nature nature-based solution is a feasible intervention towards not only regenerating forests in Nagaland (supporting the JICA-NFPM Forestry project) but also boosting the economy and livelihood thus meeting the various targets of our State’s Sustainable Development Goals as underlined in the Nagaland Vision 2030 document.
THIRD COMPONENT: Establish strong ‘Research and Development’ on Climate, Conservation and Development in Nagaland
Building the capacity of the Mobius Young Professionals (MYP) on research and development to contribute to the ongoing initiatives launched at the UN Climate conference in Sharm el Sheikh (COP 27) to translate indigenous knowledge into concrete policy actions is making considerable progress. Besides this, the Mobius Young Professionals are being trained on various aspects of contemporary environmental issues both local and global, writing and presentation skills, critical thinking, and brainstorming sessions.
Since beekeeping is an important component of Agroforestry (under Agroforestry JICA project), the Mobius project is further undertaking a collaborative research and development with the Government’s Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) and the Forest department to jointly to develop and publish “A road map to accelerate the honey sector in Nagaland” and submit it to the Government. It is envisaged that indigenous knowledge on beekeeping as nature nature-based solution is a feasible intervention towards not only regenerating forests in Nagaland (supporting the JICA-NFPM Forestry project) but also boosting the economy and livelihood thus meeting the various targets of our State’s Sustainable Development Goals as underlined in the Nagaland Vision 2030 document.
