Nagaland Forest Management Project:

Area of Work: Environment, Livelihood & Sustainable Development

The Nagaland Forest Management project objective is to promote forest conservation by

  • Forestry Intervention and Biodiversity Conservation through community participation
  • Livelihood improvement and Community Development
  • Institutional Strengthening

Thereby contributing to environment conservation and stable income generation in the targeted 185 project villages across 16 districts covering approximately 80,000 ha for forestry intervention.

The Project is also focused on improving the forest ecosystem and supporting income generation by rehabilitation of Jhum areas and provision of livelihood support, thereby contributing to sustainable forest and environmental conservation and livelihood improvement in the target villages in the State.

The Project will be implemented in the context of the rich and endemic biodiversity of the state, the rich social and cultural traditions linked to forests and land resources and the emerging threats of climate-induced vulnerabilities on forests and the livelihood of forest-dependent communities.

YouthNet FNGO will provide assistance to Divisional Management Unit (DMU)/Field Management Units (FMUs)/Joint Field Management Committees (JFMCs) for two districts (Dimapur & Zunheboto) for carrying out micro-planning, Self Help Group (SHG) formation, management of Income Generating activities and so on.
