YouthNet, a non-profit organization based in Nagaland, has taken a significant step in addressing the high unemployment rate in the state by partnering with Accenture’s ‘Skills to Succeed’ global initiative through Quest Alliance. This collaboration has resulted in a training program that focuses on enhancing the employability and entrepreneurial skills of job seekers in Nagaland. The program is designed to provide participants with comprehensive training in Retail Management, Employability, and Work Skills. By offering these courses, the program aims to equip job seekers with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in the current job market, as well as prepare them to create their own jobs through entrepreneurship. The ‘Skills to Succeed’ initiative has already proven successful in other parts of the world, and the collaboration with YouthNet in Nagaland is a positive step towards reducing unemployment and fostering economic growth in the region.
The Skills to Succeed initiative by Quest Alliance offers job seekers two types of training programs to enhance their job prospects.
Employability skills training aims to provide students/job seekers with the essential information and skills necessary for successful employment. The primary objective of this training is to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills required to thrive in the professional world. It also sensitizes them to the job opportunities available in the private sector and helps them become aware of the personal and professional growth opportunities that come with working in this sector. By developing essential skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and leadership, students can increase their employability and chances of success in the private sector. Overall, employability skills training is a crucial aspect of modern education that helps students build the necessary skills and knowledge for a successful career.
Nagaland, a state in India, has recorded the highest unemployment rate among all states and union territories in the country, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI). The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) reported Nagaland’s unemployment rate at 19.2% in 2020-21, which is a concerning issue for the state. The high rate of unemployment can lead to conflicts in society, especially among the youth who are struggling to find job opportunities. However, self-employment can provide a solution to this issue, as the state has potential for various self-employment opportunities. With proper guidance and access to resources, self-employment can empower individuals and lead to long-term financial independence.
