In a first of its kind initiative, Nagaland Career and Development Center (NCDC) was launched on 25th February, 2012, with the vision to build and improve human resources in the state. One of its first objectives was to enhance the professional skills of 300 Government officers while keeping in mind, that regardless of the change in trends, the Government is still the backbone of the society, and that Government Employees play the biggest role in the progress or non- progress of the state.
Susan Ela James, who was a trainer in Bangalore was part of the launch team. Later, Talichila Imchen, a professional skill trainer with over 13 years of training experience in Bangalore and Mumbai, returned to join YouthNet, Nagaland and headed NCDC. Talichila has an experience in training CEOs and senior executives in top corporate firms. Currently, the training department is headed by Nuneseno Chase, a professional trainer from Bangalore with over 10 years of Training experience in the Customer Service and Education industries – with the last 8 years dedicated in Training and Development.
One of the training programs of NCDC is the Professional Skills Development Program, which is exclusively designed for officers and professionals. Topics such as effective communication, conflict management, time management, team work, motivation among others are covered here. The 4-day training program is highly appreciated by all the participants. Many of them have commented that this is the best program they have attended on behalf of the Government and one, that was conducted well by a local resource person. Over the years, NCDC has been able to work with many departments and has trained more than 1000 professionals.
Some of the Government Departments which NCDC has trained include the Department of Evaluation, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency, Department of Tourism, NEPED, Directorate of Land Resources, Bio-Resource Mission, Department of Agriculture, Extra Assistant Commissioners- Kohima, District Commissioner’s Office, Dimapur, Postal Service, Civil Secretariat, Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Fire Emergency Service, DUDA, Khadi and Village Industries, Directorate of Horticulture, Department of Industries of Commerce, Administrative Training Institute and Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training.

The NCDC career guidance arm has trained over 10000 students
NCDC also works very close with Nagaland Job Centre, realising that while our youths are qualified, there is a big gap between their qualification and employability skills. NCDC has helped candidates get job seekers by training them on basic skills such as Resume writing, Interview Skills, Workplace Behaviour, and Customer Service. On advice from business houses and local entrepreneurs NCDC works with existing workforce to improve their skills at work. Some of NCDC clients in the private sector are Niathu Group of Hotels, Progressive Motors, Maruti Suzuki, TATA Motors, Dimapur Diesel, Tribal Group, Ramietech Solutions, Ozone Cafe, Aurora Hotel, Bambusa, Star Mart, Zatara Pvt. Ltd., Synergy Group Enterprise, Dimul, K.A.K., Zynorique Initiatives etc.
Human resource is one of our biggest assets but skilled Human resource is the need of the hour. Towards this end, NCDC believes that if Nagaland is to succeed in the future we first need to work and build our Human Resource.
