A study and review of youth employment under the Chief Minister’s Corpus Fund in collaboration with Institute of Tourism and Future Management Trends (ITFT) Chandigarh was carried out by YouthNet in 2006. This programme was jointly organised by the Government of Nagaland, North East Council and Institute of Tourism and Future Management Trends (ITFT), Chandigarh with the objective of tackling the problem of unemployment.
Under this programme, a 3 month training was imparted to graduates in service industry management at ITFT, Chandigarh. Thereafter, trainees were placed in different service sectors and business houses such as hotels, retails and call centers all across the country while some of them were placed in Dubai.
YouthNet assessed this programme by travelling and interviewing youths in the north zone like Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Shimla etc. The detailed report on the advantages and disadvantages of the programme was submitted and discussed with the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and senior officers of the Government. This was an important study and on the basis of this report, the future programme on youth employment was relied upon.
The Department of Planning & Coordination, Government of Nagaland also assigned YouthNet to do an assessment study on the Lady Bug Toy Production Unit. The unit which has been set up with the objective to provide employment and livelihood was not able to make progress at par with excellence and expectation. This study aimed to ascertain the root cause of the problem, which would help the Government to take the right steps for improvement and revival of the unit.
The report was based on the interviews and discussions/deliberations with the officials from the Department of Planning & Co-ordination, Department of Industries & Commerce, Nancy Kikon MD of LBTPU, girls of LBTPU, Director and Staffs of Shockely Hall Electronics (P) Ltd. Kolkata. The report was submitted to the Department of Planning and Coordination and the Department of Industries for necessary action.
